Deming, Luna County has an unsheltered homeless population that lives on the streets, in abandoned buildings and in vehicles. There are no homeless shelters or supported encampments in the entire county. Our center provides food, toiletries, clothing, bedding, counselling, showers, laundry, hot coffee, and a welcoming place to rest. The Community Lunch Program provides a hot, well-balanced lunch for the homeless, the aged or anyone else in need five days a week. Our goal is to keep our doors open so that we can continue to provide support for those in need who have very limited resources.

Tomorrow’s Women (TW)

During these exceptionally challenging times in Israel and Palestine, this global citizenship program is key to a peaceful world and a new generation of female leaders. In its 10th year, this project provides teens the opportunity to engage with one another in a safe, facilitated manner, including a unique peer exchange while also developing confidence and leadership skills. The program also offers multiple pathways for Peace Ambassadors to continue their leadership development – participating in ongoing programs in leadership positions, leading presentations at their schools and public events, serving on the TW Advisory Council, interning, and volunteering.

St. Elizabeth Shelter

The Shelter’s Casa Familia program provides a dedicated emergency shelter with 18 beds for homeless single women and five rooms for families with children along with a full range of supportive services – case management, counseling, school tutoring, clothing, supplies, life-skills, jobs-skills, resume-preparation, parenting-skills and financial-literacy classes, phone & mail service – to enable them to address healthcare issues, rebuild self-esteem, find employment, enroll the children in school and monitor academic performance, find permanent housing and return to independent living. Casa Familia is open 24/7, and St. Elizabeth has been meeting the needs of homeless individuals for 38 years.

The Sky Center

The mission of The Sky Center is to meet the challenge of youth suicide in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico through lasting solutions that encourage resiliency, courage, connection and hope. The children and youth we treat have multi-faceted behavioral health issues: physical and sexual abuse, generational trauma, high family conflict, violence in the home, suicidal behaviors, and family history of drug and/or alcohol addictions. The Sky Center includes intensive professional development training for the adults they come into contact with - increasing youth and family access to high-quality behavioural health care.

Taos Amateur Radio Club
El Prado, New Mexico / $3,000

Founded in 2012, the Taos Amateur Radio Club has grown to approximately 90 members. Our ultimate goal is to raise the science-related student scores on state-administered tests by means of increased engagement of students with STEM subject matter, increasing material support for hands-on science in the schools, and growing teacher capabilities. Content development, experiment procedure verification, and assessment criteria development will be collaborative with staff from our two schools using the Next Generation Science Standards with New Mexico additions as guidelines.

Taos Feral Feline Friends (TFFF)
Rancho de Taos, New Mexico / $10,000

In 2023, the community shelter didn’t renew its contracts with local government, leaving Taos County without a functioning animal shelter and severely hampering animal control operations. Today, our area has dangerous packs of roaming dogs and out-of-control feral cat activity. In 2024, the TFFF Clinic opened, offering free spay/neuter for all cats and dogs in Taos County with a capacity of 4,000 animals per year. Over 360 appointments have been booked to date. We expect the unaltered cat/dog population to decline gradually. When demand for spay/neuter recedes, the clinic plans to transition to offer basic veterinary services.
