Las Cumbres is dedicated to assisting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) in Northern New Mexico. NM holds the highest rate of kinship care in the US. GRGs are retired, disabled, or unemployed, yet they become involved when their grandchildren’s homes become violent or unstable. The advantages of kinship care, as revealed by International Research, is that children in the care of grandparents, godparents or other close family friends experience fewer behavioral health problems and mental health disorders, as well as improved well-being compared with children in foster care.

Established in 2004, New Energy Economy is an award-winning nonprofit organization committed to advancing environmental and climate solutions in New Mexico. What happens with industry’s oceans of waste disposal dilemma will determine whether or not extraction can continue at its current rate (150% growth in the last 4 years) and whether our water resources are protected from contamination. Our strategic approach combines legal intervention, grassroots organizing, coalition-building, and media frequency to ensure a unified and robust approach to defending New Mexico’s water resources and tackling the climate crisis.

Libros is committed to enhancing reading readiness for children in the most underserved areas of Bernalillo and Valencia counties. State testing of children confirms only 9% of these children are reading proficiently by the time they get to fourth grade. 95% of the children from these families receive free or reduced-cost lunches, and 30-40% of these families use languages other than English in the home. Poor literacy levels can readily be improved with aggressive increases in the numbers of age-appropriate books placed in the homes of these children.
New Mexico Kids Matter

New Mexico Kids Matter has provided valuable advocacy services for children who have been victims of abuse or neglect for 30 years. We serve children in foster care in Bernalillo County, New Mexico by providing Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers who advocate for their best interests in court with the goal of every child growing up in a safe, nurturing, and permanent home. CASA volunteers undertake significant responsibilities, including thorough investigations of each child’s situation, advocating for each child’s best interests in court, and helping to ensure each child’s health and welfare needs are met.
