Friends of Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge (Friends) is a non-profit organization located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Friends have a mission to shape and support the refuge in it goals of youth employment, education, habitat restoration, and environmental justice. This goal of encouraging and empowering our community to create and conserve wildlife habitat has extended to other areas in Albuquerque and surrounding communities through the Albuquerque Backyard Refuge Program. The program aims to be inclusive of all participants, whether they create habitat in a patio, balcony, courtyard, yard, or community garden.
Give Us the Floor (GUTF)

There is a mental health crisis among youth in the U.S., and particularly in New Mexico. Give Us the Floor’s program provides safe, accessible, peer support to LGBTQ+ youth on GUTF’s proprietary app, where participants support each other in a trusted space. The program is designed to ensure participant safety and to trigger life-saving interventions when a crisis is detected. Members share daily life struggles, insights and accomplishments, and provide non-judgmental feedback. Our method is based on scientifically proven factors. The program has helped LGBTQ+ youth navigate their challenges, as well as build confidence and resiliency.
Espanola Humane Society

For 31 years, Espanola Humane has provided free veterinary care for dogs and cats who have arrived at our shelter. But our dream has been to significantly expand our capacity to provide free spay/neuter and preventive services to the entire dog and cat populations of the Espanola Valley. Espanola Humane’s goals include a highly visible location to reach 20,000 area residents; capacity for 15,000 spay/neuter surgeries; free wellness care, including physicals, routine vaccinations, parasite prevention, food/nutrition, and end-of-life services for all Espanola Valley pets; and a new Veterinary Technician training program for pueblo and valley young adults.

Imagine New Mexico is a new entity whose mission is “to improve the lives of New Mexicans by incentivizing non-profits to work together to strengthen education, healthcare & our economy and to reduce poverty & crime.” INM wll pioneer a new model for collaboration by working with groups of funders to incentivize non-profits to jointly complete multi-year projects to show measurable improvement in these areas. To ensure accountability for results, the initial project then becomes a data platform and public dashboard for key indicators of New Mexico’s performance that is both non-partisan and apolitical.
