Since1985, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, Inc. has been a leader in providing health and social services for people experiencing homelessness throughout Bernalillo County. AHCH believes that health care and housing are basic human rights. Poor health and access inequities are a common cause and a major consequence of homelessness. This cycle prevents individuals from reaching optimal health outcomes and exiting homelessness. AHCH meets the complex needs of people experiencing homelessness through both field-based outreach and low-barrier site-based services to créate a variety of alternative entryways to care.
Best Buddies in New Mexico (BBNM)

Devoted to the inclusion of abilities, Best Buddies reaches all ethnicities, races, national origins, genders, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, ages, disabilities, and financial conditions. Best Buddies in New Mexico seeks to expand the Transitions Programs, including Pre-Employment Transition Services and Project SEARCH, to increase our impact on New Mexico’s unemployed and under-employed populations, specifically those with IDD. The Best Buddies’ programs are unique because they begin with the school-to-work transition services, continue with securing enriching employment opportunities for participants, and culminate in providing participants consistent on-the-job training and support throughout employment.
The Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico

Since 2001, The Grief Center has provided bereavement support programs at no cost to children and adults who are grieving a death. Our mission is to provide compassionate and safe support, understanding, healing, and hope to the grieving community. Our vision is that all grieving people will receive compassionate support needed to foster hope for the future. We are the only organization of its kind in Central New Mexico. Our goal is to provide grieving children and adults with tools, support and resources to help them cope with their loss in healthy ways.

Books Beyond the Bosque

Books Beyond the Bosque reading and literacy program is inspired by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, dedicated to encouraging a love of reading by gifting books to various programs and schools. New Mexico has the lowest literacy rate in the country. While our great state is rich in culture and diversity, our numbers are low when it comes to household income and education, with one of the main causes is access to books. While many households may not have the income to buy books, our program will offer free books and graphic novels to New Mexico’s youth.
Cooking with Kids

Cooking with Kids educates and empowers children and families to make healthy food choices through hands-on learning with fresh, affordable foods from diverse cultural traditions. We partner with schools to provide fun and impactful cooking and tasting lessons to over 6500 preK-8th grade students in Northern NM each year. We collaborate regularly with school teachers and principals to maintain strong positive relationships, which is key to our sustained, impactful programming. The need that Cooking with Kids addresses is the nutritional health and well-being of children, impacting not only overall health, but educational success.
Albuquerque Protection New Mexico (APNM)

Animal Protection New Mexico has been making a difference for New Mexico’s animals since 1979. In 2022, the Animal Legal Defense Fund ranked New Mexico as the worst state in the nation for animal protection laws for the third year in a row. Companion animals, equines, and wildlife throughout NM face complex threats to their health and safety, and require protection from neglect and abuse. Without APNM, thousands of animals would go without services and resources they need to survive and thrive. APNM designs and implements humane, pragmatic solutions to seemingly intractable problems involving animals.
CASA for Children

The New Mexico CASA Association has represented and supported the network of Court Appointed Special Advocate programs in the state of New Mexico for six years. Our mission is to develop and support the local CASA programs that provide advocacy services for youth involved with the child welfare system in communities throughout the state. Our goal is to improve the safety, health, and well-being outcomes for this vulnerable population by growing the CASA network in the state so that every child in foster care who needs a volunteer has one.
