The Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development, established since 2009, developed the Environmental Research Internship for High School students, “Building Thriving Communities through the New Generation,” which will focus on water management and flooding, environmental education, STEM research, media development, and site visits to coastal habitats within local wetlands and coastal communities. The intent is to create a space for the next generation of minority scientists, researchers and professionals designed to enhance the education and community science of environmental research through community engagement along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast.
Bridge House/Grace House

Accidental overdose is now the top cause of death for people under 40 in 37 states, including in Louisiana. Since 1985, Grace House has provided long-term, residential substance use disorder treatment to women from our area who have lost everything to their addictions – specifically, the homeless, indigent, uninsured, and unemployed. Grace House in the only facility of its kind in the region, and often is the last door on the block for the women we serve. Our long-term treatment model allows our residents the time, space, and resources to build a new, sober life for themselves.

Eden Centers is a movement to eradicate the trafficking and selling of human beings. We create systemic change through youth prevention; education and legislative advocacy; recovery and reentry services for victims, including emergency, transitional, and long-term shelter; and a lifelong community of care for survivors. Dedicated to prevention and education, Eden Centers addresses the root causes of trafficking with a core goal to provide a Continuum of Care for survivors. Our holistic approach is anchored in trauma-informed principles, ensuring that every survivor receives personalized care to heal and rebuild their lives.
4 The Girls

4 The Girls’ mission is to empower girls so they may become assets to themselves, their family, and the community. We establish a place for girls to come and receive everything needed mentally, emotionally, socially, academically, and spiritually. Over 37% of the Bastrop population are children under age 18. This age population of girls is highly vulnerable to societal pressures, sexual abuse, and suicide. 4 The Girls has a long-term goal of creating a transitional home to decrease homelessness and to assist girls aging out of foster care.
The Water Collaborative of Greater New Orleans

The Water Collaborative is a 10-year-old grassroots movement created by leaders in the water management sector catalyzed by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Recent infrastructure projects in New Orleans have faced numerous roadblocks. Public trust has dwindled, and projects aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life are under threat. The objective of this initiative is to address community concerns, establish channels for improved and constructive communication among stakeholders, and provide support to the local New Orleans government in understanding and integrating community desire into policymaking and decision-making processes.
