SFDP uses a unique client-centered legal-aid model of legal clinics in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, as well as rural areas. 100% of our staff is bilingual in Spanish and English, and all our services are available at zero cost to anyone who needs them.

Taos Land Trust

In response to community needs, we are expanding our successful Emerging Ecologists program to serve a younger, underrepresented demographic in Taos County. Data has shown that the young people who we work with are starving for leadership opportunities. Our youth-run workshops will introduce the younger generation to ecosystem resiliency, farming, conservation, and scientific inquiry while engaging in the natural world. Goals include facilitating outdoor learning at local schools and camps; educating Taos youth about climate, ecosystem resiliency and conservation practices; and increasing awareness of centrally located outdoor spaces.

Youth Heartland

Youth Heartland’s mission is to increase positive long-term outcomes and access to services by reducing risk factors and barriers for underserved families and children. Youth Heartline’s inaugural program was Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in which volunteers advocate in the best interest of foster children as they navigate the court system. The primary work of Youth Heartline is to provide advocacy, education and support to children experiencing abuse, neglect, and trauma. Our agency prides itself on extensive, collaborative relationships with several community partners including the Taos Pueblo Health and Human Services Department, local schools, museums, and local representatives.

Searchlight New Mexico

Searchlight New Mexico is a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization focusing on public service and investigative journalism. Traditional methods such as interviewing, research, investigation and storytelling are supplemented by high-quality photography. Searchlight uses social media and digital technology to nurture community dialogue and identify sources that have typically been ignored by mainstream media. We continue to expand our focus on critical needs facing New Mexico, such as criminal justice, education, and child and family well-being. Continuing to shine a light on these critical needs, our stories have impact.

Wildlife for All

Through legislative and regulatory reform, our goal is to empower diverse and historically disenfranchised voices. Our primary focus will be on modernising the NM Department of Game and Fish and utilizing public input to empower marginalized voices in wildlife policy. By shining a spotlight on the deficiencies in New Mexico’s wildlife management and proposing solutions, we aim to raise awareness among policymakers, advocates, and the wider public, catalyzing support for the necessary reforms. We believe that by addressing systemic issues in wildlife governance processes, rather than merely treating symptoms, we drive significant, long-term change.
