Chimp Haven was founded in 1995 to respond to the need for long-term care for chimpanzees that had previously been used in biomedical research. Chimp Haven has provided hundreds of chimpanzees with a wonderful sanctuary retirement. The daily care of the more than 300 chimpanzees is managed by our highly trained nine-person veterinary team, 30-person husbandry team, and nine-person behavior and enrichment team – the only one of its kind in the U.S. Chimp Haven’s leadership team continues to follow a multi year strategic plan which guides the work of their entire organization.

Our young people desperately need healthy outlets to get exercise, develop social and emotional skills, and relieve stress. Our role in this post-pandemic community is vital to closing the gap in these skills and enhancing academic learning for disadvantaged students. Our activities are designed to improve communication and teamwork skills, encourage appropriate risk-taking, and build self-confidence. Our Program Director works closely with teachers and administrators to create customized half and full-day programs to meet specific social, emotional, and/or academic objectives for each group. We operate year-round.
STAIR NOLA

For a child struggling to read, there is no substitute for receiving consistent one-on-one tutoring from an adult. This is where STAIR steps in. More than 8,900 students have been successfully served by STAIR to date. Our program provides 11 books for each student to keep at the end of each semester to start an at-home library. Using an educator-approved literacy program and giving students individualized attention is the hallmark of STAIR’s program. Tutors and students read together, practice phonics, learn sight words, work on reading comprehension, play word games, and write stories.

Our mission is to offer direct financial assistance, essential public health resources, and educational resources to at least 10,000 women and girls impacted by incarceration nationwide by 2030. Access to quality menstrual products and having products in proper supply is a national public health issue for incarcerated and/or exploited women and girls. To combat the issue of period poverty among this vulnerable population, we created the Girl Code Initiative, the only of its kind in the US, which provides free high-quality menstrual products to incarcerated women in facilities.
