Our core programs include an afterschool program, an early childhood literacy program, summer reading program, STEM and multigenerational arts programming, and evening cultural events for adults. Our current major projects include the construction of a new community center, the expansion of our summer reading program to include a pilot day camp, and internal work to rethink and improve our services, operations, and goals by examining them closely through the lens of diversity, equality, inclusion, and justice. Our highest priority goal is to evolve our governances, organizational culture, services, and work to make the library more inclusive and equitable.

Gerard’s House
Santa Fe, New Mexico /$10,000

Gerald’s House provides safe places for grieving children, youth and adults where healing happens through acceptance and peer support. We offer free, weekly support groups which help normalize the grief process. Some of our programs goals are to provide a safety net for children and teenagers who are coping with grief and loss, offer them relief from immediate suffering, and to uncover unmet needs and connect grieving families with services provided by our collaborative partners of Gerard’s House through food drives, clothing drives, diaper drives, and financial assistance.

Cooking with Kids
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000

Cooking with Kids educates and empowers children and families to make healthy food choices through hands-on learning with fresh, affordable foods from diverse cultural traditions. We partner with schools to provide fun and impactful cooking and tasting lessons to over 5,500 pre K - 8th grad students in Northern NM each year. Research shows that when kids help prepare healthy foods, they’re more likely to eat and enjoy them. School districts choose to work with CWK because we provide integrated hands-on nutrition education that supports the well-being of children and extends academic knowledge and skills.

Embudo Valley Tutoring Association
Dixon, New Mexico / $15,000

The goals of our programs is to help K-12 students - especially those with learning disabilities, attain grade level proficiency in reading and math. Demand for tutoring services in the schools where students could be supported individually or could learn in smaller groups continue to be especially high. EvTA responded by assigning tutors according to the need and permissions of the individual schools. Velarde Elementary has faced an especially challenging year with high teacher turn-over and fewer support staff because of low student population.

Hawks Aloft, Inc
Albuquerque, New Mexico / $10,000

Hawks Aloft works to conserve indigenous wild birds through conservation education, avian research, raptor rescue, and collaboration with other organizations. We are the New Mexico hub for injured and orphaned hawks, eagles, owls, and falcons as well as roadrunners, corvids, and the occasional songbird. We have provided indirect medical care for 208 patients and fielded 627 hotline calls. Additionally, food is provided for them until they are released and can sufficiently forage on their own, and no longer return to the feeding site.

Espanola Humane
Espanola, New Mexico / $50,000

The Española Valley Humane Society was founded in 1992 after assuming the responsibility of the city-run shelter. It offered adopting and expanded lifesaving animal services in Espanola Valley for the first time. We have been able to bring our Save Rate from 0% to near 90% during that time and hope to push it even higher with the help of our community and supports. More than 30% of our annual pet intake comes from families forced to give up their pets because of veterinary costs, animal overpopulation, housing or temporary financial issues.
