SFRC operates one of the only Residential Treatment Programs in NM where women can take their children, age 0-6, with them into treatment. SFRC promotes healthy attachment and bonding between mother and child(ren). Studies show women who received treatment at women-only facilities or facilities offering child care services stayed in treatment longer. Many of the children we serve have experienced maternal alcohol use during pregnancy which contributes to a range of effects in exposed children, including hyperactivity and attention problems, learning and memory deficits, and problems with social and emotional development.

Youth suicide is caused by a myriad of factors. Some of the reasons include: poverty-hunger, health disparities, undiagnosed depression, high rates of substance abuse, discrimination, under employment, multigenerational family violence, childhood abuse and other trauma. The Sky Center/New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project provides prevention and intervention services to youth and their families to eliminate financial, language, geographical and other barriers that may keep Santa Fe families from getting the help they need during a crisis or obtaining preventative information. Strong community linkages and partnerships have created collective impact on youth suicide and its closely related behaviors.
